Upcoming Downtown Elections
Boston City Council — At-Large Councilors
Boston's At-Large Councilors are elected by the whole city, not the voters in a single district. There are 9 District Councilors and 4 At-Large Councilors, all of whom have the same legislative and voting powers, but may perceive their roles and who they represent differently.
Because there are 4 At-Large City Council seats, you may vote for up to 4 candidates. At-Large and District Councilors are on the same ballot, but voted for separately.
Election Date: November 7, 2023
Voter Registration Deadline: October 28, 2023
Candidates on the Ballot (alphabetical):
Boston City Council — District Councilors
The 9 District Councilors are elected by the residents of a single area of Boston, known as a District. The District boundaries are updated every 10 years, after the decennial census — and this upcoming 2023 Election will be the first to use the new District Map adopted after the latest redistricting.
Downtown is split between three Boston City Council Districts, with the bulk of Downtown residents living in District 2, currently represented by City Council President Ed Flynn — but many Downtown residents also live in Districts 8 and 1.
Because each district has 1 seat, you may vote for up to 1 candidate for your District Councilor. At-Large and District Councilors are on the same ballot, but voted for separately.
Election Date: November 7, 2023
Voter Registration Deadline: October 28, 2023
